Pigcasso is the 750-kilo painting pig prodigy who has been taking the art world by storm! Pigcasso was rescued in 2016 from a typical industrialised hog farm in the Western Cape by Oscars Arc Founder/ Director Joanne Lefson. When Lefson noticed that Pigcasso had a knack for the paint brushes casually lying in the barn, she decided to nurture the interest and develop Pigcasso's artistic career from her secondary non-profit organisation 'Farm Sanctuary SA', in Franschhoek.
No stranger to hogging the limelight, Pigcasso has made international headlines (BBC, CNN , SKY etc) on all mainstream media on numerous occasions. In 2018, the painting prodigy became the first non-human artist to host her own art exhibition ‘OINK’ in the Waterfront. In 2018 she headlined the NISSAN Global advert for their 50th anniversary of their Skyline - and in 2019, having already sold almost R 3 million in artworks to art collectors all around the world, Pigcasso was commissioned by Swiss watchmakers SWATCH to paint their 'FLYING PIG' watch. Sold out around the World in just 2 hours, Pigcasso is Swatch’s most successful limited-Edition artist of all time. Pigcasso's biggest fan? Jane Goodall. No pig deal!
Sales of the artworks benefit Farm Sanctuary SA – and while the masses are drawn to Pigcasso's artistic touch, the motive behind her creative effort is a serious quest indeed. Joanne and Pigcasso aim to educate consumers on the detrimental effects of modern factory farming practices and to inspire a more sustainable and compassionate food production system. Less Meat. More Art. Oink on Pigcasso!
